ATLANTA, Ga. – The Atlanta Silverbacks women opened their home schedule on Saturday with a win against the Charlotte Lady Eagles 3-0 at Silverbacks Park .
The Silverbacks improved to 2-0-0 with the win while the Lady Eagles dropped their first game of the season.
Atlanta and Charlotte were scoreless through the first 45 minutes of play, but the Silverbacks held the Lady Eagles to no shots in the first half while taking 11 of their own.
The tie was finally broken in the 68th minute when Cherie Sayon took a pass from Savannah Jordan and sent it into the back of the net to put Atlanta up 1-0.
Four minutes later, the Lady Eagles committed a foul in the box, setting up Stacey Balaam for a penalty kick, which she put right past the Charlotte goalie to extend the lead to 2-0.
The Silverbacks were not done scoring. In the 85th minute, Jordan was on the receiving end of a Sayon pass that made its way into the goal to put Atlanta into a comfortable lead of 3-0.
Carolyn Campbell got her second shutout of the young season, recording three saves on seven shots faced.
The Silverbacks will host their second home game of the season on Saturday, May 25, at Columbus State University in Columbus, Ga. Kickoff against the VSI Tampa Flames is set for 8:00 p.m. at the Walden Soccer Complex.
