CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Atlanta Silverbacks women split the season series with the Charlotte Lady Eagles on Saturday when they dropped the afternoon contest 2-1 at Queens University Stadium.
The Silverbacks now stand at 2-1-1 while Charlotte improves to 2-2-0.
The Lady Eagles outshot the Silverbacks 10-6 overall and had one more corner than Atlanta as well (9-8).
Atlanta opened up the scoring in the 30th minute when Savannah Jordan took a pass from Constance Organ and put in the net for the early 1-0 lead.
The second half, however, belonged to Charlotte as the Lady Eagles outshot the Silverbacks 6-3 in the half. As a result, in the 65th minute, McCallie Jones hit the equalizer and in the 79th minute, Leah Fortune hit the game-winner for the Eagles.
Fortune led the Lady Eagles in shots with five, while Alexa Newfield with three.
Organ got her first loss of the season (2-1-0) as she had two saves on four shots faced.
The Silverbacks now return home to face the Carolina Elite Cobras as part of a doubleheader with the USL Pro Silverbacks at Silverbacks Park on Saturday, June 8. Kickoff is slated for 4:30 p.m. in Atlanta.
