DAYTON, Ohio – The Atlanta Silverbacks women will travel to Dayton, Ohio this weekend for two crucial Southeastern Conference matchups against the Dutch Lions on Friday and Sunday at Beavercreek High School.
Both the Silverbacks (3-2-1) and the Dutch Lions (3-1-1) sit tied for second place with 10 points behind Carolina in the conference with 13 points.
The Silverbacks are coming off of a 3-2 win over VSI Tampa Bay in a rain-shortened game at Plant City Stadium. The Silverbacks took an early lead, with two goals from Savannah Jordon in the opening 10 minutes of the match. The first unassisted goal from Jordon came in the fifth minute of play, followed by a brilliant ball from midfielder Kristin Burton that resulted in Jordon's second goal in the eighth minute.
After two Tampa Bay goals, the game continued through light afternoon showers with a free kick in the 43rd sealing VSI's fate as the Silverbacks fired it into the box. The ball bounced to Cherie Sayon, who was able to restore the Atlanta lead.
Dayton is coming off a 3-1 loss to Carolina on the 16th. A day prior to the loss, the Dutch Lions defeated Charlotte 2-1.
The Dutch Lions are lead by forward Emilie Fillion in goals scored with four of the seven scored on the season. The Silverbacks defense will look to slow her down in order to take six points on the weekend and make a run at the conference top spot.
Kickoff for Friday’s game is set for 4:30 p.m. while Sunday’s game is slated for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff. Both games will be at Beavercreek High School in Dayton and are both slated to be broadcast on the official home for USL soccer games, USLNation.com.
