CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Atlanta Silverbacks women have hit the road up to Charlotte, N.C. to take on the Charlotte Lady Eagles on Saturday, June 1 at Queens University.
These two teams have already met once this year. Two weeks ago, the Silverbacks, now 2-0-1, took home a 3-0 win over the Lady Eagles, now 1-2-0.
Atlanta and Charlotte were scoreless through the first 45 minutes of play, but the Silverbacks held the Lady Eagles to no shots in the first half while taking 11 of their own. The tie was finally broken in the 68th minute when Cherie Sayon took a pass from Savannah Jordan and sent it into the back of the net to put Atlanta up 1-0. Four minutes later, Stacey Balaam hit a penalty kick to extend the lead to 2-0. In the 85th minute, Jordan was on the receiving end of a Sayon pass that made its way into the goal to put Atlanta into a comfortable lead of 3-0.
For Atlanta to win on Saturday, the Silverbacks will have to slow down Charlotte again and limit their shots on goal. Amanda Naeher has six shots through three games, while Erin Wingo has a goal off four shots. Wingo’s goal came just 21 minutes into the Lady Eagles game last week against Carolina, which ended up being a 1-0 decision.
Kickoff for Saturday’s game is slated for 5:30 p.m. at Queens University Stadium.
