The Atlanta Silverbacks partner with a number of charities and groups both locally and internationally.  All of our donations of soccer paraphernalia including soccer balls and soccer apparel are sent to various groups in Africa.

Letters From Abroad...

The trip to Rwanda was absolutely wonderful--and I can't wait to go again. But I wanted to thank you again so very much for the soccer balls. You cannot imagine how happy the kids were about them. We divided them between two schools. One school is the Tujirane 'Hands Helping Hands' Project in Kigali that is also supported by Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. The kids there are children of widows and orphans from the genocide. Moms are taught skills such as sewing and hair styling, and the kids go to school. The other school was a village school outside Ruhengeri. Much poorer than the city school--no electricity, dirt floors. But you'll be happy to learn that the balls were not just 'handed out.' The teachers announced to all the kids that they would be given out (along with other items we brought) after upcoming exams were given. Then they would be awarded to children for best grades, most improved, cleanest, etc. They are really trying to instill a work ethic and keep the kids from begging (which is very common.) Truly, Rwanda is really doing things right and we were all very impressed by both the educational system and the government. So thank you so very much again for your kind donation. The kids were ecstatic!
