ATLANTA SILVERBACKS MEN COACHING STAFF
HEAD COACH - JASON SMITH Smith took over as the Silverbacks' head coach in June of 2005. Since his appointment, he has posted a record of 32-33-16. In 2007 Smith led the club to a fourth place finish in league play, posting a 15-10-11 record. He guided the Silverbacks past the first round of the playoffs for the first time in franchise history, leading the club to the USL-1 championship match. Before joining the Silverbacks, Smith was head coach of Piedmont College's men's and women's teams, posting a 264-151-14 record. As a player, Smith played for various USISL clubs from 1989-1993 and briefly with the NPSL Tulsa Ambush. He played six seasons in the USISL semi-pro league and had a short stint with the NPSL's Tulsa Ambush. He holds a USSF "A" License.
ASSISTANT COACH - ALEX PINEDA-CHACON Chacon joined the Atlanta Silverbacks in 2004 to play for the Silverbacks’ USL First Division team. During his first season with the team he earned All A-League First Team honors. Chacon will begin his professional coaching career with the Atlanta Silverbacks as an assistant coach to Jason Smith. Prior to joining the Silverbacks, Chacon played three seasons in the MLS where he was named the 2001 MLS MVP after scoring 19 goals and recording nine assists for the Miami Fusion. He also played for the New Revolution, the LA Galaxy, and the Columbus Crew. Before playing in the United States, Chacon led Honduran professional side Olimpia to six Honduran league titles, five Central American Championships, and a CONCACAF Champion’s Cup Title. Chacon represented his country during his more than ten years with the Honduran National Team; he helped his team advance to the final round of World Cup Qualifying in 2001.
ASSISTANT COACH - STEVE HUTTON Hutton joined the Silverbacks organization in 2006 as the Director of Camps and this season he will serve as an assistant coach on the men's pro team in addition to assisting Coach Muccillo with the PDL team. Hutton, a USSF A Licensed coach, played at Maryville College (TN) for one year before transferring to Virginia Tech. He spent two years as Girls Director at Metro North and spent nine years as Director of Player Development at AFC Lightning. Hutton coached Georgia ODP teams to two Regional championships and he has won five state cup championships with several different teams in Georgia. He currently serves as Girls Director and Tournament Director for the Coweta Cannons. He also holds NSCAA National, Advanced National, and Premier Diplomas.

GOALKEEPER COACH - JOSÉ PINHO José “Gaucho” Pinho joined the Atlanta Silverbacks in 2007 to serve as the goalkeeping coach for the Atlanta Silverbacks’ USL First Division team. Pinho, a native of Brazil, began coaching in the U.S. in 2004 with the Forsyth Fusion, where is now the Director of Player Development. In the fall of 2004, he joined the coaching staff for the Georgia State University Men’s team as the Goalkeeper and Fitness Coach. Pinho will continue his roles with the Fusion and the Panthers in addition to working with the Silverbacks. He also serves as a Georgia Soccer ODP staff coach. Pinho began his coaching career nine years ago in Brazil; he coached with professional teams and in the Zico Academy where he trained Korean and Japanese youth national teams. Before entering the coaching ranks, Pinho played professionally in Brazil with Flamengo (1986-1993), Botofago (1994-1995), and Nova Iguacu (1996-1997). He also earned 15 caps while playing for Brazil’s national team as a youth player. Pinho holds his Brazilian professional and youth coaching licenses, as well as the USSF National Youth License. |
