Kandji, Buete Named to Best 11

Tuesday July 8, 2008
ATLANTA—The Silverbacks' Mac Kandji and Scott Buete were named to the USL-1’s weekly Best 11 team Tuesday for their play in the Silverbacks 3-2 win over Minnesota last week.

Kandji led the team with a pair of goals and an assist in the Silverbacks’ win, including the game-winner in extra time of the first half. The brace brings his total for the season up to a team-leading seven on the season, six coming in league play.

Buete anchored the Silverbacks from his midfield spot without his normal holding midfield running-mate who missed the match due to injury.

This is the third time Kandji has been honored by the league this season, making the Best 11 team in week 7 and Player of the Week in week 10. Buete has been honored one previous time this season, earning Best 11 honors in week 8.

Rochester midfielder Ze Roberto earned Player of the Week honors for his two goals in the side's 3-1 win over Vancouver.

The Silverbacks do not face another league opponent until Friday, July 18 when the side hosts Portland at Silverbacks Park. In the meantime, the Silverbacks will face two international opponents: on Wednesday the Silverbacks face Mexican first division powerhouse Pachuca in the second annual Coap Amistad Silverbacks, followed by Argentinean club Independiente on Saturday. Tickets are available for all exhibitions and league matches by calling 1-866-GO-BACKS or by visiting www.AtlantaSilverbacks.com.
