After selecting Omar Jarun in the first round of the USL First Division Draft (Feb.25), the Atlanta Silverbacks Men announced Jarun has signed a contract (pending international clearance) that will put him in the Silverbacks uniform for the next two years. Jarun, the sixth overall pick, has already begun training with the Silverbacks and says he’s eagerly awaiting the season,
“I am thrilled with this opportunity to begin my career with Silverbacks and I expect our team to do well this year. The start of the season is right around the corner and I’m excited to start.”
Jarun, 6-5, 225, played in Atlanta through high school and will return to Atlanta to begin his professional career. During his senior year at the University of Dayton, Jarun received All-Atlantic 10 honors after scoring ten goals, making him second in the conference. In addition to his scoring presence, Jarun has vision on the field – he finished third in the A-10 with seven assists. In his two years with the Flyers, Jarun put away 19 goals. He spent his underclassman years at the University of Memphis where he scored eight goals and earned Conference USA All-Freshman honors. The McIntosh High School (Peachtree City) grad will play up front for the Silverbacks.
The Atlanta Silverbacks Men begin their USL First Division season on April 21 in Puerto Rico. The 2006 season will again see the Silverbacks travel all across North America, from Puerto Rico to Vancouver and from Miami to Montreal.
