Kandji Named Player of the Week; Hayes Best 11 Two Weeks RunningTuesday June 24, 2008 ATLANTA—The Silverbacks' Mac Kandji was named the USL-1 Player of the Week for his two goals and one assist in the Silverbacks 3-1 win over Puerto Rico last Saturday.

The honor is Kandji's second since turning professional less than a year ago. Kandji leads the Silverbacks in scoring with five goals and three assists in 12 appearances. He currently is third in the league in points, with four goals and three points in league play. He also has one goal in U.S. Open Cup play.
David Hayes also earned a place on the league's weekly honors list, named to the Best 11 side for the second consecutive week and the fourth time this season.
Hayes has three goals and two assists on the season including an assist on Kandji's first goal versus Puerto Rico, playing a long calculated pass into a streaking Kandji.
Kandji and Hayes also accounted for the Silverbacks' two goals in the club's U.S. Open Cup draw versus the Austin Aztex earlier this month. The Silverbacks went on to win 5-4 in penalty kicks. Both Hays and Kandji converted in the tie-breaker.
The Silverbacks are in action tonight, away at Miami F.C. Blues in the USOC second round. Miami defeated the PDL Bradenton Academics to advance. The winner will face MLS side F.C. Dallas on July 1.
The Silverbacks resume league play Saturday, hosting the Portland Timbers at Silverbacks Park. Two weeks ago the Silverbacks fought back to draw the Timbers at Portland. Kickoff for Saturday night's game is at 7:55.
