Women Look to Remain Unbeaten Versus RailHawks Friday

Thursday June 12, 2008
ATLANTA—The Atlanta Silverbacks Women look to remain unbeaten on the year Friday night when it hosts the Carolina RailHawks Women at Atlanta Silverbacks Park. Kickoff is at 7:55.

The Silverbacks (7-0-0, 21 points, first place) are looking to put a little more distance behind second place Charlotte (7-1-0), which also has 21 points. The Silverbacks have a game in hand and were responsible for the Lady Eagles only defeat of the season, a 3-2 result.

Last Friday, the Silverbacks thrashed the Tampa Bay H.C.U. Hellenic 6-0 at Silverbacks Park. Christine Latham and Sarah Steinmann each had a pair of goals. Ronda Brooks and Rebecca Hall rounded out the scoring for the Silverbacks.

Steinmann's brace brought her league-leading total to 11 on the season. Latham is currently in a three way tie for third in the league for goals scored with six.

Since May 16's 5-0 drubbing at the hands of the Silverbacks at WakeMed Park, the RailHawks (4-1-1, 13 points, third place) have gone unbeaten and are coming off a decisive 4-0 win over Bradenton.

“We expect things to be a little different this time around,” said head coach Tony Anglin. “Since our game, they seem to have found their form. I am 100 percent sure they are coming into this match with a different attitude than the first game.”

Notes

Still the One
Sarah Steinmann's two goals versus Tampa Bay pushed her to a four goal cushion in the golden boot race. She has 11 on the season. The next closest is Charlotte's Kelly Schmedes with seven goals in eight games. Christine Latham is tied with two others for third place with seven goals.

Final Four Location Announced
The location for this year's W-League Final Four was announced earlier this week. The Hampton Roads Piranhas will host the tournament at the beautiful Virginia Beach SportsPlex July 31 and August 2. However, unlike in years past, the host club will have to qualify for the tournament.

Not Quite
For the first time all seasonm, the Silverbacks did not have a player named to the W-League weekly Best 11 squad. Christine Latham's two goal performance in the side's 6-0 win over Tampa Bay was only good enough for honorable mention.

Next Up
The Silverbacks are at home again Friday, June 20 versus the Richmond Kickers Destiny at Silverbacks Park. Kickoff is set for 7:55 p.m.
