SILVERBACKS FALL 1-0 ON THE ROAD IN MONTREALWednesday September 5, 2007 The Atlanta Silverbacks fell to the Montreal Impact 1-0 tonight at Claude-Robillard Sports Complex; the loss takes the Silverbacks’ record to 12-9-6. Atlanta remains in fourth place in the USL First Division standings with 42 points, just ahead of the Rochester Raging Rhinos (39 points), the Puerto Rico Islanders (39 points), and the Vancouver Whitecaps (37 points). “We played the game and made some line-up changes to make sure we stayed injury free. The group played well and it was unfortunate that we couldn’t tie the game at the end. We’re moving forward and preparing for our match against Vancouver on Friday,” commented Head Coach Jason Smith.
The Impact took the lead late in the first half when Patrick Leduc scored the game-winner in the 44th minute. Tonight’s match marked Montreal’s last game at Claude-Robillard Sports Complex – the team is moving to a new stadium next season. The Silverbacks had several good chances in the second half with near goals from Luis Liendo and Alvin Hudson, but Atlanta could not find the equalizer. Liendo collected the ball on the end-line and sent it past Montreal’s goalkeeper, but the goal was called back by the linesman who ruled that the ball was out of play. Atlanta has one final regular season game on Friday night against the Vancouver Whitecaps at 10:00 pm.
