The Atlanta Silverbacks Women will play in their final home match of the 2007 season tomorrow night (07.20.07) as they attempt to clinch their first ever W-League playoff berth in a match against the Fredericksburg Lady Gunners at 7:55 p.m. The Silverbacks need the win to secure their spot as the No. 1 seed in the Atlantic Division of the W-League’s Central Conference.
The top two teams in the Atlantic Division will continue on to the Central Conference playoffs next weekend in Minnesota. With only one game remaining for each of the top three teams and just two points separating first place from third place, Atlanta, Richmond, and Charlotte will have to fight to the end to earn a trip to Minnesota. Atlanta (8-2-1, 25 points) sits tied for first place with Richmond (8-2-1, 25 points) while Charlotte (7-2-2, 23 points) is knocking at the door in third place. Although Atlanta is tied with Richmond for first place, the Silverbacks Women own the tie breaker thanks to their two wins over Richmond. Should Atlanta win on Friday night, they will advance to the Central Conference Playoffs as the number one seed of the Atlantic Division and will take on the number two seed of the Midwest Division on Friday, July 27.
The Atlanta Silverbacks U23's will be playing in a double-header with the Silverbacks Women on Friday night. The U23's kick-off at 5:15 p.m. as they too remain in the heat of a playoff battle for the PDL postseason.

SILVERBACKS MEN HOST TIMBERS ON SATURDAY
The Atlanta Silverbacks Men will host the Portland Timbers, who currently lead the league with a 9-2-3 record, this Saturday (07.21.07) at RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium at 7:55 p.m. The Silverbacks suffered their first defeat this week to California on the road (1-0) after a four-game win streak, and will look to rebound while playing at home this weekend. With an upset against the Timbers, the ‘Backs could slide into one of the top five spots in the standings. Only five points currently separate the Timbers (30 points) and the Silverbacks (25 points) and the win would close the gap as teams continue the battle for the chance at a playoff spot.
“Every win at this point in the season, really matters. With only four home games left, we really need to win every game at home. We are going to need to continue our scoring ways to win Saturday and beat the team that has allowed the least amount of goals in the league,” commented team captain Rodrigo Rios.
The Silverbacks will be giving out their first set of player cards to the first 250 fans, please call 404-969-4900 or visit www.atlantasilverbacks.com to reserve your seats.
