The Atlanta Silverbacks will take on the Charleston Battery on Friday night at 8:00 pm at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, SC. The match, the Silverbacks’ second in the 2007 Southern Derby Cup, will be televised live in a national broadcast on the Fox Soccer Channel. The Silverbacks, 3-4-4, last played the Battery, 4-4-3, on May 26th in South Carolina; the Battery won 2-0. As for the Southern Derby Cup, the Silverbacks lost their first cup match 2-1 on May 12 against the Carolina RailHawks. The Silverbacks’ last two matches (Seattle and California) have ended in scoreless ties; Atlanta will be looking to continue their defensive shutouts while also finding the back of the net.
The Silverbacks were able to find the back of the net in their 10-0 win over Azzurri FC (USASA) in the first round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on June 12. The Silverbacks will host the Charlotte Eagles (USL-2) in the tournament’s second round a week from today, on Tuesday, June 26. The winner of that match will take on an MLS side in the third round.
