SILVERBACKS AT HOME SATURDAY; LAST CHANCE FOR SCARVES ON FRIDAY NIGHT WITH SILVERBACKS WOMEN

Thursday June 14, 2007

The Atlanta Silverbacks will resume USL First Division play this Saturday night when they host the California Victory at 7:55 pm at RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium. The match-up will be the first ever meeting between Atlanta and the California expansion side. The Silverbacks (3-4-3) will look to build off their 10-0 thumping of Azzurri FC (USASA) in the first round of the U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday night. Before beginning the nationwide tournament, the Silverbacks played the Seattle Sounders to a scoreless tie last Saturday night. California is coming off a U.S. Open Cup win as well; the Victory beat the BYU Cougars (PDL) 2-1 on Tuesday evening. As for USL First Division play, the Victory (1-4-3) sits in last place of the standings. But despite the poor start to the season, California beat the number one ranked Vancouver Whitecaps 1-0 last Thursday and then tied the Minnesota Thunder 0-0 on Saturday night. They will be looking to continue their good fortune with a win in Atlanta; the match will surely be intense on the field as the Silverbacks look to defeat the Victory.
The Silverbacks will be giving away Silverbacks team cards to the first 1,000 fans through the gates at Saturday night’s game. For ticket information call 404-969-4900 or visit

Atlanta and Charlotte will go head-to-head in second round action on Tuesday, June 26th at 7:55 pm at RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium. Charlotte beat another USASA team, Lynch’s Irish Pub, 2-0 in the U.S. Open Cup’s first round. SILVERBACKS WOMEN DEFEND HOME WINNING STREAK ON FRIDAY
The Atlanta Silverbacks Women (4-1-0) will defend their home winning streak this Friday night when they host the Bradenton Athletics (0-5-0) at 7:55 pm at RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium. The Silverbacks, tied for first in the Atlantic Division, will have to keep a watchful eye on the Athletics. Although Bradenton is in last place in the league, the team upset the Silverbacks 3-1 on the road last year and tied them 2-2 in Atlanta. Bradenton will be aggressively searching for their first win and the chance to knock off the Silverbacks at home. The match will bring great excitement and great soccer to RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium for yet another Friday night.
In addition to the great play on the field, the first 150 fans through the gate will have another chance to get Silverbacks scarves. Be sure to arrive early - last week, the scarves were all gone long before the start of the match. For ticket information call 404-969-4900 or visit
www.atlantasilverbacks.com.
