SILVERBACKS FALL 2-0 IN CHARLESTON

Saturday May 26, 2007
The Atlanta Silverbacks fell 2-0 Saturday night to the Charleston Battery at Blackbaud Stadium. The road loss takes the Silverbacks’ record to 3-3-2.

“We can’t afford to give up soft goals – we gave up two goals and had to try to battle back. I’d say we need to be more tough and win more 50-50 balls. We had some chances late in the game but we just didn’t finish,” commented Head Coach Jason Smith after his team’s loss.

Charleston took the lead in the 35th minute when Stephen Armstrong assisted Byron Alvarez. The Silverbacks shut down the Battery for the remainder of the half but early in the second half the Battery doubled their advantage to two goals. In the 51st minute Ian Fuller scored a goal from an assist by Chris Corcoran. The Silverbacks fought hard until the end with many close chances, but the visitors could not find the back of the net.
The Silverbacks will return home next weekend to take on Miami FC in a rematch from last weekend. The game begins at 7:55 pm on Saturday, June 2 at RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium. For ticket information visit
