One of the summer’s hottest tickets goes on sale this Monday, May 21 when the Atlanta Silverbacks open up sales for Copa Amistad (Friendship Cup) which will see the ‘Backs host storied Mexican club, Cruz Azul on July 28 at RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium. Due to the limited number of seats, coupled with the high demand to see the match, the Silverbacks will be selling the tickets in three phases – see more information below.
Cruz Azul plays Pachuca tonight (5.17.07) in the Mexican First Division semi-finals; the two will play again on Sunday in the second-leg of the two-game aggregate series. If Cruz Azul advances, they will take on either Chivas Guadalajara or Club America in the finals.
Jared Borgetti, Cruz Azul legend, will travel to Atlanta to take on the Silverbacks in July.
“It is very exciting to go to the United States, the fans always receive us with open arms and playing against the Silverbacks is very good for us,” commented Borgetti. “Soccer in the United States has grown tremendously.”
Isaac Mizrahi, head coach for Cruz Azul, agreed with Borgetti on the state of soccer in the United States.
“Soccer in the United States has drastically increased in its popularity. Teams such as the Atlanta Silverbacks have contributed to the growth of the sport with the construction of soccer-specific stadiums,” said Mizrahi. “Atlanta is a large city that offers their sports spectators the opportunity to attend games for all major sports. We are excited to have been invited to participate in Copa Amistad.”
Tickets to see the highly anticipated match will be available for $55.00 and $37.50. The $55.00 price point will offer seats on a first-come, first-served basis between the 18-yard lines. The $37.50 price point will offer seats on a first-come, first-served basis between the end-line and the 18-yard line. Tickets will go on sale in three separate phases:
May 21 – May 25: The first phase will see Platinum Club members and season ticket holders offered the opportunity to purchase their existing seats for the corresponding Copa Amistad price. All sales during this first phase will be made over the phone.
May 29 – June 1: The second phase will see tickets made available for purchase to other Atlanta Silverbacks club members, including: the Silverbacks Elite Youth Club, the Silverbacks PDP/Super-Y program, the Silverbacks Amateur Club, and Silverbacks affiliate – Georgia Futbol Club. Each transaction during this phase will be limited to four tickets and all sales during this second phase will be made over the phone.
