The Atlanta Silverbacks, 2-1-2, will head south this weekend to take on the Puerto Rico Islanders and Miami FC for their first meeting with each team during the 2007 season. The ‘Backs will play the Islanders on Friday night at 8:00 pm and then travel back stateside to play Miami on Sunday evening at 6:00 pm.
The Silverbacks dropped to second place in the USL First Division standings after suffering their first loss of the season to the Carolina RailHawks 2-1 last Saturday night (5.12.07) at RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium. The Silverbacks sit in second place with eight points; the Islanders sit in sixth place with six points; and Miami FC sits in 10th place with three points.
This weekend’s trip marks the beginning of a two-week, three-game away stand with games in Puerto Rico, Miami and Charleston. The Silverbacks’ next match at RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium will take place on Saturday, June 2 when the team hosts Miami FC at 7:55 pm. U23’s PLAY AT NASHVILLE – LOOKING FOR SECOND WIN IN U.S. OPEN CUP QUALIFIERS
The Atlanta Silverbacks U23’s will hit the road for the first time this season to travel to Tennessee to take on the Nashville Metros on Saturday night at 8:00 pm. The U23’s, 1-0-0, won their home opener 2-1 last Saturday against the Cary RailHawks U23’s at RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium. The Silverbacks U23’s have four matches that count towards qualifying for the 2007 U.S. Open Cup – Cary RailHawks U23’s (5.12.07), Nashville Metros (5.19.07), Bradenton Athletics (5.24.07), and Carolina Dynamo (5.26.07). With one win under their belt, the U23’s will look to gain another win this weekend against the Metros.
