After accumulating four points over the weekend with a win and a tie, the Atlanta Silverbacks are currently sitting at the top of the USL First Division table. The ‘Backs beat the Minnesota Thunder 3-1 on Friday night at RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium and tied the Carolina RailHawks 0-0 on Saturday night at SAS Stadium in Cary, NC. Including the 2-2 tie in the home opener against the Montreal Impact, the Silverbacks, 1-0-2, have tallied five points on the season and sit in first place with three games played.
The Silverbacks dominated the USL Team of the Week this week with three players receiving spots on the team for their efforts this past weekend. Daniel Antoniuk had two assists in the 3-1 win over Minnesota; Machel Millwood scored a goal and had an assist in the match against Minnesota; and Omar Jarun led the Silverbacks’ defense in the 0-0 tie against Carolina.
The Silverbacks will host a Cinco de Mayo celebration on Saturday, May 5 at 7:55 pm when they take on the Carolina RailHawks in a rematch after last Saturday’s stalemate between the two sides. SILVERBACKS WOMEN ANNOUNCE MORE ADDITIONS TO THE ROSTER
The Atlanta Silverbacks Women announced six more additions to the 2007 roster. Julie Augustyniak, Krista Davey, Annette Filiatrault, Christine Latham, Siobhan Rooney and Candace West will each be joining the Silverbacks for their second season with the franchise. Augustyniak and Filiatraut will continue to provide consistency for the Silverbacks’ defensive line. Davey, West and Rooney will all add depth to the outside midfield positions while utilizing their speed and individual flair. Latham, who was only able to make part of the 2006 season due to her Canadian National Team commitments, will prove to be an immense threat to the Silverbacks’ opponents throughout the 2007 season.
The Silverbacks Women open their season on May 11 on the road in North Carolina against the Charlotte Lady Eagles. The team has their home opener at RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium on June 1 at 7:55 pm against the Charlotte Lady Eagles.
