MIDVALE ELEMENTARY SIGNS ON WITH SILVERBACKS' SCHOOL PROGRAM; U14'S WIN GOLD AT VULCAN CUPThursday March 8, 2007 The Atlanta Silverbacks announced Midvale Elementary School as the second school to join the School Partnership Program. The recently launched program creates a link between the Atlanta Silverbacks and local schools. The new initiative includes several opportunities for interaction between the players and the students, and the Silverbacks' consistent presence will hopefully give students a steady and lasting connection with the team. “As a professional sports organization we recognize the important part our athletes can play as role models in the community. We’re looking forward to working closely with Midvale Elementary and building a strong relationship with the students, faculty and parents,” commented Laura Fedrigo, Silverbacks’ Executive Director. Throughout the year, each member school will receive several visits from Silverbacks’ players (i.e., Career Day, Field Day, etc.), a Nutrition Assembly designed and presented by Silverbacks’ staff and players, two complimentary season tickets to be used in auctions or as awards, and the opportunity to participate in a School Group Night which can be used as a fundraiser for their respective school. The Silverbacks presented the Nutrition Assembly in their first visit to Midvale Elementary. Silverbacks’ players and staff will be present at the Midvale Family Fun night on March 24. U14 SILVERBACKS ELITE WIN GOLD AT VULCAN CUP The U14 Silverbacks Elite won the Vulcan Cup last weekend and brought home a gold medal after appearing in their second tournament championship in as many weeks. “We had some new players join us for the tournament for the first time; we’re pleased with their performances and how easily they fit in with the team. I'm happy with the team, the players are working hard and finding ways to win,” commented Ted MacDougall, head coach of the U14’s and DOC for the Silverbacks Elite. The Silverbacks played their way into the championship with a 1-0 win over Lafreniere Gamblers (LA), a 2-2 tie against Mississippi Fire Blue (MS), and a 1-0 win over Brentwood Premier (TN). The ‘Backs took on Gulf Coast United (MS) in the finals on Sunday afternoon and held their gold trophies high above their heads after their 1-0 win. The U14 Silverbacks and other teams from the Atlanta Silverbacks Elite Youth Club will begin their spring season in the coming weeks. “All our teams are using the spring season to gear up for Regionals in Jacksonville, Florida. We’re very pleased and excited about the progress all our teams are making,” said MacDougall. Tryouts for the Atlanta Silverbacks Elite Youth Club will be held in June for the 2007-2008 season.
