The Atlanta Silverbacks announced the launch of their School Partnership Program, a new initiative that will partner the Silverbacks with 10 community elementary schools. The program, which includes a number of events a year, will give local students a steady and lasting connection with the Silverbacks who recognize the importance to serve as strong community role models.
“We take part in many appearances throughout the Atlanta area, but we wanted to create a way that we could reach students on a more personal, consistent basis. We’re pleased to be able to work directly with the children in our community, and we take pride in player involvement aimed to inspire and motivate the students around us,” commented Laura Fedrigo, Silverbacks’ Executive Director.
Pleasantdale Elementary, located just minutes from RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium, was the first school to join the Silverbacks’ School Partnership Program.
“The opportunity to partner with a professional sports team is awesome and it’s wonderful to have the Silverbacks so close to us. Having players and staff come out for career day, field day, and other events will be great for our students,” commented Karen Boswell, Principal at Pleasantdale Elementary.
Participants in the program will each benefit from a comprehensive partnership with the Silverbacks that will include the following:
- The Silverbacks will present a Nutrition Assembly, developed and administered by staff and players. The assembly discusses the importance of maintaining healthy eating habits and incorporating all the major food groups into daily meals.
- The Silverbacks will participate in three-to-four events a year at the school, including Career Day and Field Day.
- The Silverbacks will donate two complimentary season tickets for the school to use in auctions/benefits or for student, staff of volunteer rewards.
- Members of the program will also be able to particpate in School Group Nights with the Atlanta Silverbacks which can also be used as a fundraising vehicle for their respective school.
The Silverbacks presented the Nutrition Assembly in their initial visit to Pleasantdale Elementary. This assembly was well-received with teachers commenting that the assembly complemented the in-classroom curriculum already in place.
The students also seemed to enjoy the assembly and many wrote thank you letters after the event. It's often refreshing to see the world through the eyes of a child, here are how two children received the Nutrition Assembly:
“Dear Atlanta Silverbacks, Thank you for showing us the food groups. I really liked when the gorilla picked the children. I learned that you have to get A’s and B’s to be a soccer player.”
“Dear Atlanta Silverbacks, Thank you for showing us the food groups. I really liked the gorilla. I learned about the food.”
