Just six months after its launch, the Atlanta Silverbacks Elite Youth Club once again added to the clubhouse hardware this past weekend - the Silverbacks U12 Black beat the Cobb FC Chiefs Gold 2-0 in the finals to win the Cobb Classic Tournament. The Silverbacks not only shut out their opponent in the final, but the team did not concede any goals during the entire tournament. In addition to their great defense, the Silverbacks put away 11 goals and dominated their bracket.
“The tournament was very well run and Cobb FC club has always been very supportive of our newly launched club. The tournament was a great way for us to start the spring season,” commented the U12’s coach, Ted MacDougall who is also the Director of Coaching for the Silverbacks Elite Youth Club. “I think the great competition we had this fall helped our team become stronger and really adapt well to the 11-v-11 style of play.”
The Silverbacks U12 Black just moved up to 11-v-11 this past fall, the players had all previously been playing 8-v-8. During the Cobb Classic, the Silverbacks won all three first round games, beating NASA AC Milan 4-0, Cobb FC Chiefs Gold 3-0, and Norcross Fury Gold 2-0. The Silverbacks and the Chiefs finished first and second in the bracket and advanced for a rematch in the finals. But the Silverbacks came back just as strong the second time around, and took home the championship title with a 2-0 win. The championship win was the second for the U12 team; they won the GFC Invitational this past fall.
