TOP AMATEUR TEAMS ONE STEP CLOSER TO PRESTIGE AND PRIZE PURSE
This Saturday night (10.7), four of Atlanta’s best male amateur teams will compete in the semi-finals of the Atlanta Silverbacks Champions League brought to you by McDonalds. Each team will be fighting for a chance to play in the championship match and possibly win $15,000 and the title of champion. The prize purse is the biggest in any local tournament and includes $15,000 for first place, $5,000 for second place, $2,500 for third place, and $2,500 for the league of the winning team. Super Estrella will take on Real Tapatio at RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium on Saturday night at 7:00 pm. Fans will get to see the second half of the semi-final double-header when Pozahualco battles it out with Future Stars Premier at RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium at 9:00 pm.
Super Estrella, who competes in Liga Lawrenceville, is the only team who played in last year’s semi-final round. Super Estrella beat last year’s runner-up, Manchester, 3-2 last weekend to advance to the semis. Real Tapatio, who also competes in Liga Lawrenceville, competed in last year’s inaugural tournament and made it to the quarterfinal round. Real Tapatio beat Taximaroa 2-1 last weekend to advance to the semis. Pozahualco, who competes in the Georgia Soccer League, did not play in last year’s tournament. Pozahualco beat the Atlanta Silverbacks Reserves 2-1 last weekend to advance to the semis. Future Stars Premier, who competes in the Georgia Metro Soccer Association, also advanced to the quarterfinals last year. This year, Future Stars Premier advanced to the semis off a 4-2 win over Monterrey FC.
The Atlanta Silverbacks Champions League, sponsored by McDonalds, Cingular Wireless, Western Union, Best Mexico, Infinity Insurance, Frito Lay, Mundo Hispanico, and Viva 105.7 FM, aims to offer the best teams in Atlanta amateur soccer the opportunity and venue to compete against each other.  The Atlanta Silverbacks Champions League, the first of its kind in Atlanta, has been very successful in its second season, drawing the top local competition and large crowds to Atlanta Silverbacks Park.
Tickets for the Atlanta Silverbacks Champions League semi-finals are available at the gate for $7 or can be purchased in advance for $5. The finals will be held on Saturday, October 14 at 9:00 pm – the night will include free 2006 Atlanta Silverbacks Champions League official t-shirts for the first 1,000 fans who enter the gate and a fireworks show will follow the match. Tickets for the final are $10 at the gate and are also available through Tuboletos. Advance tickets can be purchased at Atlanta Silverbacks Park or the Silverbacks’ offices for $8.
