SILVERBACKS HOST TORONTO FRIDAY NIGHT, ATLANTA'S IN THE HEART OF THE PLAYOFF HUNT

Thursday August 3, 2006

With only ten games remaining in their regular season, the Atlanta Silverbacks have begun the 2006 playoff push. While some might say it’s too early to start calculating, every game counts, especially this Friday night’s game against the Toronto Lynx. The Silverbacks will host the Lynx at 7:30 pm on Friday night at RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium. The Lynx, second from the bottom in the USL First Division table, have gone 4-1-2 in their last seven games (including a 1-0 win over the Silverbacks in Toronto). The Silverbacks sit in the midst of a tight race for the six coveted playoff spots and each week could see the rankings change drastically.  Montreal is currently clearly out in front with 38 points and the next six teams are separated by just four points. The Silverbacks have five remaining home games and winning at home will be a key to securing a spot in the playoffs. In addition to the Toronto Lynx, the Silverbacks will also host the Puerto Rico Islanders, Miami FC (twice), and the Rochester Raging Rhinos.
The first 500 fans at Friday night’s game will receive 2006 team posters and all season ticket holders are invited to a meet-and-greet with the players after the match. The Silverbacks invite season ticket holders to bring memorabilia to have signed at the event which will be catered by Sweet Tomatoes
Tickets for Friday night’s game are available, however, after midnight tonight (Thursday night) remaining tickets will only be available through the online “print-at-home” option. Tickets will also be available at the stadium box office starting at 5:00 pm on Friday. Please purchase your tickets early! Upper level parking opens at 5:30 pm and the stadium gates open at 6:00 pm. GASTON EARNS A SPOT ON THE USL ALL-LEAGUE TEAM
Although the Atlanta Silverbacks Women finished their season more than two weeks ago, defender Leslie Gaston is still making headlines and being recognized for her play in the 2006 season. Gaston earned a spot on the 2006 W-League All-League Team, the top honors for the W-League season. She was the only player on the All-League team representing a club that did not make the playoffs, but her efforts during the regular season caught the attention of the league’s coaches and general managers. Gaston anchored the Silverbacks’ defense in a season where they only allowed 17 goals. Aside from locking-up the back in all 14 games for Atlanta, Gaston contributed two goals and one assist during her 1258 minutes. She was also named to the W-League All-Central Conference Team.
