SILVERBACKS WOMEN LOSE AT HOME
The Silverbacks Women fell to a 3-3 record tonight with a tough loss to the undefeated Richmond Kickers Destiny. After giving up an early goal, the Backs battled but lacked the finishing touch tonight.
The Silverbacks Women settled down after giving up a goal nine minutes in, but were unable to convert on any of their chances. Their first chance came in the second minute when Krista Davey crossed the ball into the box. The ball was deflected out of bounds, which eventually resulted in three consecutive corners. However, the Silverbacks women were not able to finish any chances.
In the 9th minute, the referee awarded
Richmond a free kick from just inside midfield. The resulting kick found its way through the Silverbacks’ defense, and
Richmond ’s Jen Parsons gathered the ball on the endline. She pulled the ball back and put a shot on goal. While
Atlanta saved the ball on the endline, they could not keep it out entirely with the ball deflecting off the post and into the goal.
Richmond took a 1-0 lead.
Atlanta had several chances following
Richmond ’s goal, but nothing came of them. Melanie Wilson prevented
Richmond from doubling their lead ten minutes from halftime. Parsons sent a hard shot to the top right corner of the goal, drawing a spectacular diving save from
Wilson . Just before halftime, several Silverbacks had looks on goal after Nel Fettig’s cross landed in the box. However, a congestion of
Richmond players kept
Atlanta from making a play.
The second half proved to be just as frustrating for the Silverbacks Women. More than once Richmond’s goalkeeper came out and left the goal open, but
Atlanta was never able to take a decent shot. Three separate times in the last twenty minutes the ball lingered in the
Richmond box, but the confusion and
Richmond defense foiled any of
Atlanta ’s chances on goal.
Atlanta also had numerous crosses skip in front of the goalmouth, but no Silverback ever took advantage.
The Silverbacks Women return to RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium next weekend for two games. The Women will take on the Central Florida Krush (3-0) on Friday at 7
