The Atlanta Silverbacks Women will play their first home game this weekend at Atlanta’s newest stadium, RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium. The Silverbacks will take on the Hampton Roads Piranhas on Friday, June 9 at 7:30 pm. The team has played only away games since the start of the season in order to allow time for the completion of the stadium, and now, after three road-trips, the Silverbacks Women will come home to their new stadium.
The Silverbacks Women, 2-2, won their first two games, beating the Carolina Dynamo and defending Central Conference champs – the Charlotte Lady Eagles. Last weekend, the Silverbacks dropped two games to the Richmond Kickers Destiny and the Hampton Roads Piranhas which brought them to a .500 record for the season.
The Silverbacks look to win their home opener tomorrow night and seek revenge on the Hampton Roads Piranhas who beat them 2-1 just last weekend. The Silverbacks’ roster boasts nine former WUSA players including six players from the Atlanta Beat - Sharolta Nonen, Julie Augustyniak, Leslie Gaston, Tara Minnax, Melanie Wilson, and Nikki Lamb. The nine former Beat players, along with Canadian National team standouts Melissa Tancredi and Christine Latham, make-up an incredible roster for the Silverbacks’ second season. The Silverbacks Women only have seven home games this season, be sure to come out and catch a game.

MEN HEADED FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE SELL-OUT
The Atlanta Silverbacks Men played last weekend in front of a standing-room only crowd of 3,217. With just over 500 tickets remaining, this weekend is shaping up to be another sell-out weekend for the Silverbacks. The Silverbacks, 1-3-2, will face the defending USL Champions, the Seattle Sounders on Saturday, June 10 at 7:30 pm.
After last week’s 3-2 win over long-time rivals the Charleston Battery, two Silverbacks were named to the USL Team of the Week. Jason McLaughlin received the honors after scoring a goal and getting an assist; Matt Bobo received the honors after scoring the Silverbacks’ first goal in RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium. The Silverbacks tied the Sounders last season in Seattle and lost to them in Atlanta.

FOUNDATION HOSTS WORLD CUP KICK-OFF EVENT
The 2006 World Cup begins tomorrow in Germany, but the celebration starts tonight all around the world, including Decatur, GA. The Atlanta Silverbacks Soccer Dreams Foundation is celebrating the start of the World Cup by hosting a special reception to kick off the opening of the FIFA World Cup Official Art Poster Exhibition. Tonight’s event at the Vinson Gallery in Decatur will allow soccer fans to see the new posters, meet Silverbacks players, and meet the Silverbacks’ mascot Socrates. The reception starts tonight at 6:00 pm with food provided by Zocalo Creative Mexican Restaurant. Proceeds from the opening-night reception will benefit the Atlanta Silverbacks Soccer Dreams Foundation.
