In the final minute of stoppage time, the Atlanta Silverbacks Men fell to Miami FC, 1-0. Despite numerous chances on goal for both sides, the game remained scoreless until the end of regulation time. After the game Head Coach Jason Smith commented on the loss, "I thought we came out and played well, Rodrigo Rios had a great game and gave Miami lots of trouble in the midfield. I thought we should have walked away as the winning team, we had plenty of opportunities to score and just didn't finish."
The Silverbacks' abundant chances on goal included a shot that went off the post and a ball cleared off the line. In the 76th minute Rodrigo Rios sent a free kick in to Miami's 18-yard box and the ball was narrowly cleared off the goal line. During the last ten minutes the Silverbacks kept control of the ball and attacked Miami's defense. Miami sat back in a cautious defensive mode, attempting to weather the storm. Miami successfully weathered the Silverbacks' attack and got on the board off a counter-attack goal. Miami brought the ball quickly out of the back and played a ball through the Silverbacks' defense, the ball ricocheted out and a Miami forward slipped the ball past Felipe Quintero. Although the Silverbacks narrowly lost the game, they did hold Miami's Romario scoreless. The Silverbacks Men will play the Charleston Battery next Saturday, May 27 at 7:30 pm in Charleston, SC. This will be the first match betweeen the Battery and the Silverbacks in the 2006 season.
