The Silverbacks W-League announced David Hayes today, as the new Head Coach for the Atlanta Silverback Women. Hayes, who has spent the last four seasons as a player with the Atlanta Silverbacks Men, is a USSF “B” Licensed coach and is currently the Technical Director for the Alpharetta Ambush Soccer Club.
“Hayes has been an integral part of the Silverbacks for a number of years, and we are very happy to have him bring his experience, both on and off the field, to the Atlanta Silverbacks Women,” commented Atlanta Silverbacks Women’s General Manager, Laura Fedrigo.
Hayes’ illustrious professional career started in 1999 in the Major Soccer League (MLS) with DC United, where he went on to win the MLS Championship Cup, He then went on to play for the Chicago Fire, where he scored his first of many career goals. Hayes started his A-League career in 2003 for the Rochester Rhinos, and then went on to play in Richmond for one season before signing with the Silverbacks.
As a threat at both ends of the park, Hayes started in every game and made over 100 appearances at left back for the Backs, but also contributed a on the scoring side with 15 goals and 14 assists during his career with the Silverbacks. In 2007, Hayes was named Defender of the Year, the first Silverback to receive the honor. He was also awarded All-league and named to the team of the week four times. In 2008, Hayes was announced to his second straight All-League selection, despite a disappointing season, and named to the team of the week three times.
“I am very happy to be working with the Women and to continue my involvement with the Silverbacks. It is a great honor to be coaching with such a talented group and program. I will do my best to bring a title home to Atlanta,” said Atlanta Silverbacks Women’s Head Coach, David Hayes.
