ATLANTA, GA - For the fourth year in a row, the best men’s amateur teams from the greater Atlanta area will compete in one tournament – the Atlanta Silverbacks Champions League brought to you by McDonald's. All 16 of the invited teams will compete for the title and $25,000 in cash prizes, free of charge.
The Atlanta Silverbacks Champions League allows teams from various leagues around the region to compete on one stage and see who will be the champion among champions. Aside from playing for the right to call themselves champion, teams compete for the largest purse in any local amateur tournament. The prize money totals $25,000: $15,000 for the winner, $5,000 for the runner-up, $2,500 for the third-place team, and an additional $2,500 for the winning team’s league.
Since its inception in 2005, the annual tournament has been a huge success thanks to the support of McDonald's, drawing thousands of people to Atlanta Silverbacks Park to watch the best local amateur teams compete on a common stage. Last year, the Atlanta Silverbacks Reserves of the Atlanta District Amateur Soccer League (ADASL) beat Tierra Caliente of Liga Lawrenceville 3-2 to take the title. This year’s Atlanta Silverbacks Champions League will run from September 8 – October 18, and all games will be played on select Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
