The Atlanta Silverbacks have announced three preseason exhibition games as the team prepares for the upcoming NASL season. Each of the two home games, scheduled for March 23 and 30, will be free and open to the public.
The Silverbacks will host the Southern Polytechnic State University team at Atlanta Silverbacks Park on March 23 at 4:30 p.m. The Hornets compete at the NAIA collegiate level and are coming off an undefeated record within the Southern States Athletic Conference in 2010.
Three days later, the Silverbacks will take on Georgia State University at 4 p.m. at the GSU Soccer Field in Decatur. The March 26 game will be an especially meaningful one for Silverbacks midfielder Jordan Davis, who wore the captain’s armband for the Panthers during his senior season in 2005.
The Silverbacks will play another home exhibition game at 4:30 p.m. on March 30, welcoming Clayton State University to Atlanta Silverbacks Park. Davis has been an assistant coach with Clayton State since 2009, and the NCAA Division II team is coming off a conference championship in 2010.
The Silverbacks have begun their preparation for the upcoming matches, kicking off training camp at Atlanta Silverbacks Park Monday morning. The team spent the majority of their first day in intrasquad scrimmages, while Tuesday’s session saw the players rotating between conditioning and training exercises. Silverbacks Head Coach José Manuel Abundis, Assistant Coach Alex Pineda Chacón, and Goalkeepers Coach José “Gaucho” Pinho joined the players for some of the team’s drills.
