The Atlanta Silverbacks Reserves remained undefeated last Friday night, disposing of the defending NPSL champions, Jacksonville United, 3-0 at Atlanta Silverbacks Park.
The game was a tale of two halves, with the first half ending scoreless and Reserves goalkeeper Carl Woszczynski barely being tested.
The Reserves didn’t waste any time grabbing their first goal once the second half started. Just three minutes in, substitute midfielder Arturo Cruz whipped in a cross that eventually fell to forward Jahbari Willis, who converted a volley from close range to give his team a 1-0 lead.
Defender and team captain Ramiro Canovas doubled the Reserves lead in the 82nd minute after a neat one-two with substitute midfielder Josey Portillo.
After a missed penalty kick from Jacksonville United captain Tommy Krizanovic in the 87th minute, the Reserves would put the game away. Portillo was again the provider, feeding forward Kofi Gyawu, who finished low into the corner of the net to make the score 3-0.
The Reserves and Jacksonville United will meet again on Saturday down in Florida. The Reserves sit atop the NPSL Southeast Division standings with 13 points, while Jacksonville United continues to struggle after losing two straight games last weekend.
